Skids those one wheelers you saw on the trail were most likely electric unicycles. I bought one about a month ago and put over 100 miles on it already, they are great for getting around at work because done days I might have 2 miles of walking carrying tools and ladders back and forth. I think electric unicycles may become more popular than one wheels eventually since they have far better range and top speed over 40 MPH in the larger models.

I definitely can relate to a few of those crashes from having the gyro direction set wrong, to ripping tail belts in flight. Another mechanical failure was the little pin going through the mushroom gear in the tail transmission on my synergy 766 shearing in flight. A pilot induced failure was dropping a little too low into the corn when I was trying to show off.
